Ways to Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is a product that most people have in their homes. It is 100% sodium bicarbonate. Baking soda is a substance that has been used for many years.  Since there is a high percentage of sodium bicarbonate in baking soda, it is considered natron. Natron is a natural mineral. As a natural mineral, it is called nahcolite.

There are many ways to use baking soda, including putting it in the refrigerator or baking with it. Besides being able to bake with it, it has health properties as well. There is no need to rush to the doctor when you have a minor ailment.

Baking soda may be able to do the trick. It is powdery, so you have to be careful to not waste any of it. When it comes to baking soda it doesn’t matter if you use to store or name brand. Both work the same way. Here are 14 ways to use baking soda at home.

1. Use as a deodorant.

Most deodorants have aluminum and parabens in them. They can cause irritation and it will become difficult to wear deodorants. By using baking soda, you have to worry about getting irritated because it’s a natural substance. Baking soda used as deodorant can be used in two ways.

One way is to just place a handful of it under your arms. It may be messy, but your underarms will not smell. Another way is to add a little bit of water to the baking soda to make a paste. This is a good option to avoid the mess. It can be used daily.

When using it as a deodorant, you want to buy a large box, so that you won’t run out. When you take a shower, the baking soda will come off easier than regular deodorant. Regular deodorant tends to stick to the underarms and make it difficult to come off.

 

2. Cleanse your hands with baking soda.

Instead of using harsh chemicals found in store and name brand hand cleansers, use baking soda. In order to use baking soda as a hand cleanser, mix three parts of baking soda to one part of water. Scrub your hands thoroughly, so it will get rid of the germs. It won’t leave crumbs on your hands either.

You will be left with fresh-smelling hands without the redness and itchiness that can come from using hand cleansers with chemicals. Even natural hand cleansers that are found at health food stores have ingredients that can irritate the skin.

It may seem like it’ll be difficult to use baking soda when you’re out, but it can still be used. The only thing you’ll need to do is to put it into a lock tight container to prevent it from spilling everywhere. You may even get others to use it as a hand cleanser.

3. Rid your skin of irritation with the use of baking soda.

It helps to get rid of insect bites and poison ivy. With these two issues, it can cause itching and irritation, especially if you scratch the area for a long period of time. When using it on the skin for rashes and itchiness, make a paste with it. Always use water when making a paste.

Exfoliators in the store have harsh chemicals, which can cause acne and wrinkles. The idea of using an exfoliator is to make the skin look healthier. Make a paste with three parts of baking soda and one part of water. Gently massage onto your face. Wash it off completely with lukewarm water.

It is so good that it can be used on a daily basis since it’s all-natural. It can be used on the feet as well. Place warm water into a foot basin with three tablespoons of baking soda. Your feet will so much better, especially if you have been on your feet all day.

Exfoliate your feet as well by making a paste. Massage it gently on your feet for a few minutes before washing it off. You don’t necessarily have to put lotion onto the skin afterward because there is no dryness.

5. Clean the bathroom with baking soda.

Products in the store used for cleaning are harsh and can cause breathing issues since the scent stays in the air for a long period of time. By using baking soda, there is no harsh smell. You’ll just have a fresh scent over the house. When you clean the tub, sprinkle the baking soda in water.

The tub doesn’t need to be soaking wet. Scrub the tub until it’s clean. The tub will be as white as it would be if you used bleach, but without the bad smell. It is so natural that when you drain the tub, it won’t clog it. Clean the sink and floor with baking soda.

When cleaning the floor, place warm water and baking soda in a bucket. You want to have more baking soda than water. Place the mop into the bucket and wipe the floor clean.

 

6. Remove splinters with baking soda.

Most people dig a splinter out of the skin, which will take a long time. When they do take it out, there may be some irritation. Baking soda is a natural way to get rid of splinters. Place one tablespoon of water in a glass or bowl. It all depends on where the splinter is located.

Place the affected area into the glass of water for a few minutes. This can be done twice a day. Make sure you use fresh baking soda and water each time you soak your skin to prevent a fungal infection. The splinter should come out in two days if you do it twice a day.

Toothpaste bought at the store doesn’t do the job that it says it will do. Your teeth will be cleaner and shiner. You will have a fresh mouth as well.

In order to keep a fresh mouth throughout the day, you would have to clean your teeth often. Even chewing gum isn’t a good idea because the sugar will get into your teeth and cause tooth decay, especially if you don’t brush your teeth immediately.

When you use baking soda as toothpaste, you can add water to baking soda to make a paste or place just baking soda on your toothbrush. It is important to brush your teeth for two minutes. Spit out excess baking soda. After 15 minutes rinse your mouth.

8. Place a box of baking soda in the refrigerator and freezer to eliminate odors.

Foods left in the freezer and refrigerator have odors and the baking soda absorbs them. In order for baking soda to work, open a box of it and place it in the corner of the freezer or refrigerator. That way no one will accidentally knock over it when getting something in and out of the refrigerator or freezer.

Before placing the baking soda into the freezer and refrigerator, place the day’s date on it because you will have to replace it in three months. You may have to replace it sooner because the particles may absorb the odors quicker.

Since baking soda isn’t expensive, you won’t have to pay hundreds of dollars to replace it every three months. It costs less than a dollar. It also doesn’t matter what brand you use. It all will work the same.

 

9. Sprinkle baking soda in your shoes.

By doing this your shoes will have a good smell. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer, so you don’t have to worry about irritation of the skin when you place your feet back into the shoes. Baking soda comes in handy when sprinkling it in the shoes. People who exercise and play sports keep their shoes on for long periods of time.

When they take them off, the shoes leave an odor. They may let the shoes air out, but the odor will remain. Most people don’t wash their shoes in the washing machine because it will ruin them. It is even worse if the person uses the same pair of shoes when working out.

The fungus can get into the shoes and cause foot problems. Antifungal sprays and powders found over-the-counter really don’t do the job. The best it will do is to cause your feet to become white.

10. Using baking soda for baking is another use.

Baking soda has been used for years. It has been reported that many civilizations used baking soda to make bread and other foods needed to rise. Today, when people make baked goods from scratch, they always use baking soda.

Without baking soda, the baked good will not come outright. For instance, when you buy a cake mix at the grocery store, it may not rise, even if you use the right cake pan. By making the cake from scratch, it will rise the way it’s supposed to. Don’t use baking powder instead of baking soda. There is a difference.

Baking soda is much stronger than baking powder. The baked good won’t rise the same way as it would if you used baking soda. Sometimes people make the mistake of using baking powder instead of baking soda since they may think both work the same way.
