You might have guessed by now already that lavender also happens to be a powerful muscle relaxant that can give some quick relief to aching muscles – and you can find it available in essential oil for dilution and application.

 

2. Cayenne Pepper

When you mention cayenne pepper to most people then the first thing they will think of is the use of cayenne pepper as a spice or flavoring that’s used primarily in food – how many dishes can you think of that are spiced by using cayenne pepper? How many things just go down better with a little sprinkling of cayenne pepper right over it – including a great, healthy salad?

We can think of a lot of uses for cayenne pepper to mention here, but we can be almost sure that you didn’t think of this one. Cayenne pepper can also help to relax the muscles, and if you are able to mix a tiny amount of cayenne pepper into cream then you should be able to apply it for inflammation to your joints and muscles –but remember that you definitely do not want to touch your eyes after you do this.

Black pepper can be bought in its raw form and in the already powdered variety – though if you have a choice then we would suggest that you rather go for the raw peppercorns than pepper powder, as you get to release the oils that are contained in the peppercorns by crushing them yourself instead of using pepper where most of the oils have already dried out with the pepper.

You should know that pepper does a lot more than just adding a little bit of flavor to your food – pepper is also a great remedy for helping with inflammation. You should include pepper in your diet and you should already start to feel the effects – and if you have a lot of tension in your muscles, the pepper can also help to take care of this as a symptom. There are some black pepper extracts available on the market if you can’t handle pepper in your diet and would prefer to use an alternative measure but still get the added benefits.

4. Peppermint

You should know that peppermint should be distinguished from spearmint – though they are part of the same family of plants along with catnip, they are not exactly the same thing and they do taste slightly different, so never buy the wrong one if you are planning to make a recipe that has to contain one or the other.
