Foods You Really Need to Avoid With Arthritis

Arthritis the joint disease comes in many forms and is often misunderstood or stereotyped. Even though it’s usually referred to as an elderly affliction, it can also affect children and other people in their adulthood. 1. Dairy Products

In addition, saturated fats in dairy foods like butter, milk, and cheese stimulate inflammation, making it hard to move joints, hence the increase in pain.

Avoiding pasteurized foods will decrease arthritis pain or any other joint-related pain. To include the right type of protein into your diet, consider consuming vegetables such as lentils, beans, and spinach. These have the right type of protein that doesn’t trigger inflammation.

Other non-dairy sources that can be incorporated into diets for arthritis patients are almond, soy, and coconut milk. Some patients switch to a vegan diet to avoid any potential consumption of protein which will later aggravate their conditions. This is considered the best way because a vegan diet is free of animal products.

 

2. Red Meat

Red and processed meats are not good for arthritis patients. This is probably because of the chemicals found in this type of meat. Red meat contains chemicals such as purines and nitrites. These chemicals have the potential to increase inflammation and body pain.

The National Academy of Sciences stated in their 2014 study that processed foods have glycan products that cause inflammation. This glycan stimulates the growth of cancer cells in the human body. Therefore, this makes red or processed meat very dangerous for people suffering from arthritis.

This also means that they are at risk of developing other chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes. Instead of eating red meat, arthritis patients should stick to other protein sources like fish and poultry meat.

3. Refined Flour And Grains

Just like processed meats, refined flour and grains have inflammation agents. This is due to the fact that the most refined grain has the germ and the bran removed, which are also the most nutritional part removed.

The chemicals and additives found in refined salt are not good for people with bone problems. Even though these additives give it the ‘taste’, they also promote water retention in the body. It lacks the important minerals needed by the body to function such as phosphorus and silicon.

For strong bones, you should limit the intake of refined salt. Lowering its consumption also lowers the risk of osteoporosis, calcium loss and risk of fracture due to having brittle bones.

There are alternatives that you can add to your diet and actually enjoy them as much. Sea and Himalayan salts are the good options to use as substitutes. Also, beware of processed foods as they contain too much salt used for preservation and longer shelf life.

 

9. Artificial Food Additives

Most frozen and canned foods are preserved in order to increase their shelf life. The common food additive used for preservation is the monosodium glutamate. It’s mostly found in frozen and packaged foods such as Chinese foods, potato chips, soups, frozen snacks, etc. This artificial food additive is not good for those suffering from arthritis, as it can stimulate pain and inflammation.

Since it easily triggers inflammation, it is not recommended and it’s very dangerous to be eaten by people with inflammatory illnesses. Avoiding packaged foods would be ideal, adjust to basic home-cooked meals prepared with fresh ingredients.

Other foods that are good include organic products, avoid any flavor enhancers as chances are high that they contain monosodium glutamate. Just like the monosodium glutamate food additive, artificial sweeteners also cause inflammation. Avoiding eating these unnatural food additives will help you to have pain-free joints.

10. Tomatoes

Even though it adds so much flavor and color to all diets, tomatoes are best avoided. There is the toxic tomatine that is said to the culprit when it comes to the effect of this fruit on arthritis. This on its own makes tomatoes fall under the possibly avoid foods.

However, besides producing this toxin that stimulates swelling and joint pain, no link or relationship between tomatoes and arthritis have been medically confirmed.

However, many other arthritis sufferers attest to have found that once they eliminated tomatoes from their diet, inflammation improvements were felt.

Tomatoes can easily be consumed without even realizing it.
